Welcome to Awaken,

A sanctuary in the shape of a ritual.

Awaken was born from a simple yet powerful idea: that the way we begin our day matters.

In a world that often moves too fast, Awaken invites you to slow down. To carve out space — even just a few minutes — to reconnect with yourself before the outside world rushes in. What started as a daily matcha ritual has grown into something deeper: a way of living marked by presence, intention, and care.

Every element you’ll find here has been thoughtfully chosen — not to add more to your life, but to help you come back to what’s essential. From the vibrant calm of our Japanese matcha to the quiet reflection of journaling by hand, Awaken is here to support the small, sacred acts that nourish your mind, body, and soul.

We also host gatherings — intimate workshops that blend connection, ritual, and learning — held in beautiful spaces across Italy and beyond. Each one is a gentle reminder: you don’t need to go far to come home to yourself.

Awaken is for those who value quality, subtlety, and meaning — who know that luxury isn’t loud, but felt in the details.

You don’t need to do more. Just begin, softly.

The Essence of Awaken Matcha

Details

Where - Our matcha comes straight from KagoshimaJapan.

where crystal clear air, soil free of pesticides, chemical fertilizer and herbicides, mineral-rich water from the Kirishima mountain range, home-made four year long fermented compost rich of micro-organisms all make this matcha of the highest possible quality.

Quality & taste - Awaken Matcha stands out as we use only the top four leaves from the first eight that sprout during the 4 weeks of shading in Spring.

These premium leaves are chosen for their deep umami flavor, robust aroma, and vibrant green color. The tender nature of these top leaves ensures a creamy, smooth texture and a thick, rich foam that sets our Matcha apart. By avoiding older and lower quality leaves, we guarantee a superior Matcha experience with every cup.

Clean energy - L-Theanine is produced in the roots of the plants. It moves from the roots to the leaves. Grown in shades without direct contact with sunlight, L-Theanine remains unchanged in amount and property

Tests have show that the Awaken Matcha has an L-Theanine content as high as 4,000mg/100g. This is because our farmer waits 5 years instead of 3 for his plants to grow before harvesting. This allows for the roots to grow deeper into the ground, absorbing a maximum amount of nutrients from the soil to produce beneficial glutamates, including L-Theanine.

How to keep - Make sure to keep your matcha away from moisture and direct sunlight, keep the bag sealed or store in an airtight container. Store in a cool dry place. Doing otherwise might affect the taste profile and the color of the matcha.

The Ritual

Matcha is not just made — it’s invited. A quiet moment to pause, breathe, and prepare something meaningful. Here’s how we love to bring the ritual to life, in all its forms — whether warm or cool, pure or creamy.

Usucha – Traditional Thin Tea
A simple, sacred preparation rooted in Japanese tea ceremonies.

– 1g - 2g awaken matcha
– 70–80 ml hot water (70–80°C — not boiling)
– Bamboo whisk (chasen)

Steps:
- Sift the matcha into a bowl — this removes clumps and makes it silky.
- Add the hot water.
- Whisk in a zigzag (M or W) motion until a fine foam appears.
- Sip slowly. Let it be a moment.

Iced Pure Matcha
Light, refreshing, and energizing without distraction.
You’ll need:
– 2g matcha
– 60–70 ml water (room temperature or cool)
– Ice

Steps:
- Sift matcha into a bowl or shaker.
- Add the water and whisk or shake until smooth.
- Pour over a glass full of ice.
- Stir, sip, reset.

Warm Matcha Latte
Comforting, creamy, and deeply grounding
You’ll need:
– 2g matcha
– 30–50 ml hot water (not boiling)
– 150–250 ml warm frothed milk

Steps:
- Sift and whisk matcha with hot water in your bowl.
- Froth your milk until creamy and cloud-like.
- Pour it gently over the matcha.

The Benefits

Matcha contains caffeine — about 30–35mg per gram — but unlike coffee, it’s released slowly thanks to a unique amino acid: L-theanine. This combination supports a calm, focused alertness that can last 4–6 hours, without the jitters or sudden crashes associated with coffee.

Matcha is exceptionally high in catechins, a class of antioxidants found in green tea. One of the most powerful is EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate), known for its role in:

  • Combating oxidative stress
  • Supporting cellular health
  • Promoting cardiovascular wellness

Matcha can contain up to 137x more EGCG than regular green tea.

Matcha ranks extremely high on the ORAC scale (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity), a method of measuring antioxidant capacity. While values can vary, high-quality matcha often exceeds:

1,300 units per gram, compared to blueberries at around 93 units per gram.

This means even small daily servings offer powerful antioxidant support, helping to:

  • Protect skin and cells from premature aging
  • Strengthen resilience to environmental toxins and pollution
  • Maintain long-term cellular vitality

L-theanine, naturally abundant in high-quality matcha, has been shown to:

  • Increase alpha brain wave activity, within 40 minutes after consumption (linked to relaxed focus and creativity)
  • Improve concentration
  • Support cognitive performance under stress

This is why matcha is often used to stay grounded and alert at the same time.

Matcha’s combination of caffeine + L-theanine doesn’t just create a better energy profile — it also helps regulate stress. Studies have shown that L-theanine can:

  • Reduce cortisol levels (the body’s main stress hormone)
  • Promote relaxation without drowsiness
  • Improve sleep quality over time when used mindfully

Because matcha is made from whole, shade-grown leaves — ground into a fine powder — you're consuming the full leaf. This means you get:

  • Higher levels of chlorophyll, which supports liver function and gentle detoxification
  • A natural alkalizing effect for the body

Shade-growing maintains L-theanine and chlorophyll content in the leafs.

The Origin

Proven Clean

Not all matcha is created equal. The difference lies in how it’s grown, when it’s harvested, and how it's cared for after. These factors don’t just affect flavor and color — they deeply influence the nutritional value and purity of the final cup.

High-quality ceremonial-grade matcha — like the one used at Awaken — is made from first-harvest leaves, picked in early spring. For about three weeks before harvest, the tea plants are carefully shade-grown, protected from direct sunlight.

This traditional shading technique slows photosynthesis and triggers the plant to produce:

  • More chlorophyll, giving matcha its rich, green hue
  • Higher levels of L-theanine, the amino acid responsible for calm focus
  • More fat-soluble and water-soluble vitamins, like A, K, C, and B-complex
  • Smoother flavor — low bitterness, delicate umami, clean finish

In contrast, matcha harvested in summer (sometimes labeled culinary or second harvest) is exposed to direct sunlight:

  • This increases catechin and tannin levels, which can make the taste more bitter or astringent
  • The color often shifts toward a duller or yellow-green
  • L-theanine and certain vitamins degrade under light exposure, reducing its calming and nutritional benefits
