The Awaken Matcha - Ceremonial Grade
The Awaken Matcha - Ceremonial Grade
Awaken Matcha is a ceremonial-grade, first flush matcha crafted to deliver clarity, calm energy, and a full-bodied umami experience.
Sourced from the nutrient-rich volcanic soils of Kagoshima, Japan, our matcha is made using only the top leaves from the first spring harvest. The tea plants are grown without the use of pesticides or synthetic chemicals, and are shaded for a minimum of 21 days to naturally boost chlorophyll and L-Theanine levels—two markers of premium matcha.
Our cultivar selection, carefully chosen for its balanced sweetness and creamy texture—is stone-ground into an ultra-fine powder that dissolves smoothly and froths to perfection. The result is a bright green, velvety matcha with a naturally sweet aroma, no bitterness, and a gentle, long-lasting energy lift.

About Awaken Matcha
Where does our Matcha come from?
Kagoshima, Japan.
crystal clear air, soil free of pesticides, chemical fertilizer and herbicides, mineral-rich water from the Kirishima mountain range, home-made four year long fermented compost rich of micro-organisms all make this matcha of the highest possible quality.
The quality of Awaken matcha
Awaken Matcha stands out as we use only the top four leaves from the first eight that sprout during the 4 weeks of shading in Spring.
These premium leaves are chosen for their deep umami flavor, robust aroma, and vibrant green color. The tender nature of these top leaves ensures a creamy, smooth texture and a thick, rich foam that sets our Matcha apart. By avoiding older and lower quality leaves, we guarantee a superior Matcha experience with every cup.
How to use this Matcha?
the Awaken Matcha can be used in a more traditional setting for both Usucha and Koicha.
Usucha and Koicha are two traditional styles of preparing Matcha tea, each with distinct characteristics and preparation methods:
Usucha:
- Meaning: "Thin tea"
- Preparation: Uses a smaller amount of Matcha powder (approximately 1-2 grams) mixed with more water (about 70-90 ml).
- Texture and Flavor: This results in a lighter, frothier tea with a more delicate taste. It is commonly enjoyed in everyday settings and is often associated with a more casual tea-drinking experience.
Koicha:
- Meaning: "Thick tea"
- Preparation: Requires a larger amount of Matcha powder (about 3-4 grams) mixed with less water (approximately 30-50 ml).
- Texture and Flavor: This produces a thicker, more syrup-like consistency with a richer, more intense flavor. Koicha is traditionally used in formal tea ceremonies

Higher level of L-Theanine
L-Theanine is produced in the roots of the plants. It moves from the roots to the leaves. Grown in shades without direct contact with sunlight, L-Theanine remains unchanged in amount and property
Tests have show that the Awaken Matcha has an L-Theanine content as high as 4,000mg/100g. This is because our farmer waits 5 years instead of 3 for his plants to grow before harvesting. This allows for the roots to grow deeper into the ground, absorbing a maximum amount of nutrients from the soil to produce beneficial glutamates, including L-Theanine.
What is L-Theanine?
L-theanine is an amino acid found in tea leaves, known for promoting relaxation without drowsiness by increasing alpha brain waves and modulating neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin. Scientifically proven effects include reducing stress and anxiety, enhancing focus and attention, particularly when combined with caffeine, improving sleep quality, and supporting cognitive functions and mental health. Together with caffeine, L-theanine improves alertness and cognitive performance, providing a balanced state of calm and focus.
Why is the color important?
The color of Matcha is an important indicator of its quality. High-quality Matcha, has a vivid green hue, which reflects the careful selection of the top leaves harvested on the right moment.
This vibrant green color signifies a high concentration of chlorophyll and the presence of essential nutrients.
Lower-quality Matcha, often appears dull green to brownish-green.
The bright green color not only ensures a rich, umami flavor and a smooth texture but also indicates the use of premium, (in our case organic) leaves.
Freshness
Our Matcha is milled and packed by our supplier only upon receipt of our order.
We recommend to use your matcha within 6 months and to maintain it's freshness adhere to the storing instructions mentioned on the label.
Storing
Make sure to keep your matcha away from moisture and direct sunlight, keep the bag sealed or store in an airtight container. Store in a cool dry place. Doing otherwise might affect the taste profile and the color of the matcha.
Servings
The pouch contains 30 grams which makes 15 to 30 servings (1 to 2 gram per serving).
